Food vendors in busy markets cook all day, and their choice of fuel affects their health, their costs and the surrounding environment.

WEMASA visited 78 food vendors in four of Temeke’s biggest markets — Sterio, Kizuiani, Kampocheo and Mtongani — to map who uses charcoal, gas and firewood. This evidence helps partners and authorities design practical solutions that make clean cooking energy accessible to small businesses.

Key results

  • 78 food vendors visited and their cooking fuels recorded
  • Four major Temeke markets mapped
