Beach & Community Cleanups

Mobilising volunteers, residents and partners to clear waste from beaches, streets and public spaces — and to keep them clean.

Dar es Salaam 3 photos

WEMASA cleanups bring together volunteers, women and youth groups, local leaders and partners to collect and remove waste from streets, beaches and public spaces.

But a cleanup is only the beginning. Each event is paired with awareness on proper waste storage, the importance of paying for waste collection and the health risks of dumping — so that communities keep their surroundings clean long after the volunteers go home.

Key results

  • Volunteers mobilised to collect waste from public spaces
  • Collected waste bagged and handed over for proper disposal
  • Residents engaged on proper waste storage and collection
